What is this blog and book about?

This book is an exploration of self. Using some of my own experiences, and my own self questioning, I'll be asking you, the reader, to explore who you really are. To question your assumptions about your life, your opinions, your prejudices, your values.

We wear masks so much of the time. We adopt behaviors out of a perceived need to be seen as kind, or scary, or approachable, or unapproachable. We want to attract, so we wear clothes to attract, or behave in ways that we think or hope will attract.

Some of us try to avoid attracting, and do what we can to hide in public, or hide away completely, because we can't tolerate others, or being seen in public. Some of us can't stand to ever speak in public, and dread the thought of having to stand in front of strangers.

So our lives become dictated by what we believe we are, and by what we believe others expect of us. We find ways that we feel work for us, and we wear the clothes that project the image that we want others to believe we are.

And yet even then, things can fail. We acquire an image that works, but it becomes stale. We follow a fashion, and then it goes out of fashion. We join the crowd, or we separate from the crowd, to find some way to make life work.

But every now and then, it just doesn't. Or it does, but it doesn't last. And as we carry on through this journey of being, we change and grow, or we don't. We keep friends. We lose friends. We acquire new friends, and lose them again.

But all the while, there is this core self, this "me", that doesn't change. Or does it? This is what I'm exploring in my life, and sharing in this book and blog.
